Cornell, Professor Sasa Zivkovic, 2023 / Designed with my partner Cirrus Chen for the Whitehawk Eco Village in Ithaca, the kooLhouse is a two-story 3D printed concrete house that derives its construction method, form and pattern from printing optimization.
01_we limit the printing of all house components (the walls, the slabs) to be on site.
02_
all the walls are designed to be interlocking L shapes to maximize seamless fitting on the print bed and to minimize the rounds of printing required.
03_
all the walls are printed with a structurally supportive pattern, similar to that of Nervi’s principle stress lines, before selective pouring, to allow for a reduction in concrete usage by 30% to 50% compared to conventional pouring methods.
